UNLV holds on as Rodger wins at the Southern Highlands

Patrick Rodgers succeeds at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters to claim his third title of the season. It was not an ordinary Sunday for Patrick Rodgers as the 12^th seeded College golfer went on to clinch his third title for the season after winning the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in an impressive manner. This was his eight title assert as a rookie which meant, he equaled the records with the legendary Tiger Woods for his wins in school history.

As expected by the host UNLV, the competition went off to nerve-racking finish as the champion faced stiff competition from Jonathan Garrick of UCLA and UNLV’s Kurt Kitayama.  The scores were at a marginal difference till the 16^th, but Patrick made the 17^th in three and a par on the 18th for the win.

 

WGC Match Play: Jason Day Beats Victor Dubuisson in Epic Final

Australian Jason Day gets the biggest win of his career as he captures his first WGC title, beating Victor Dubuisson in the epic final. Australia’s Jason Day held his breath in order to win the WGC Accenture Match Play championship right after Victor Dubuisson completely threatened to pull off a remarkably astounding victory at Dove Mountain. 

The world number 30, Dubuisson, made his maiden appearance in the event. He was looking forward to become the first French-born player to win the PGS Tour. Though he won on the last two holes in order to extend the match, but soon after two incredible escapes he finally lost to Day’s birdie on the 23^rd. 

The 26 year old Jason Day paced to 17^th tee with a two up lead. Irrespective of the improbabilities of the astonishing event, everyone present witnessed a remarkable pull off by Dubuisson to keep the series alive and commendable win of Day that is certainly going to be talked about for many years to come.

Paul Lawrie to Miss Morocco Event to Watch Aberdeen's Cup Final

Paul Lawrie has recently confirmed that he is going to miss the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco next month as it clashes with the Scottish League Cup Final.The veteran Scot has finally decided to opt to go to Celtic Park in order to watch his beloved Aberdeen take on the Inverness Caledonian Thistle on March 16, instead of trying to pick up valuable Ryder Cup points in Agadir.

Lawrie, played an important role in the “Miracle at Medinah” in 2012, is now struggling to qualify for this year’s clash with US at Gleneagles, following a slow start to the season. 45-year old Lawrie is at present languishing at 68^th in the European qualifying standings, but he had previously stated that he faced dilemma after Dons had beaten St Johnstone in the semi-finals.

However, during a Q&A session on Twitter, Lawrie confirmed that he would put his Ryder Cup hopes on hold for a week and observe Aberdeen play their first major final for 14 years. Stephen Gallacher, who currently lies in the 14^th place, is Scotland’s finest hope of having a home player qualify for Paul McGinlay’s team. 

Justin Rose Pulls Out Of 2014 Honda Classic with Shoulder Injury

Justin Rose, the reigning US Open Champion recently withdrew from the 2014 Honda Classic in Florida because of a nagging shoulder injury. Six out of the world’s top eight players including the number one in the league, Tiger Woods, would be participating in the grand event. Unfortunately, the 33-year old Justin Rose has been battling with tendinitis in his right shoulder throughout the season. 

Rose’s team made out an official statement that he needed some time off as scheduling for four straight weeks of competition was certainly an aggressive start to the season. The world’s number six, Justin Rose had injured his shoulder last August, but his rehabilitation still continues, stated his team members.

However, Rose is hopeful for the World Golf Championship - Cadillac Championship at Doral, which is to be held next week. He had won this championship two years ago.  The Honda Classic event would include Tiger Woods along with the Australian world number two Adam Scott, world number three Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, fifth Phil Mickelson, seventh Zach Johnson and eighth Northern IrishmanRory McIlroy.
