Paul
Lawrie has recently confirmed that he is going to miss the Trophee Hassan II in
Morocco next month as it clashes with the Scottish League Cup Final. The veteran
Scot has finally decided to opt to go to Celtic Park in order to watch his
beloved Aberdeen take on the Inverness Caledonian Thistle on March 16, instead
of trying to pick up valuable Ryder Cup points in Agadir.
Lawrie,
played an important role in the “Miracle at Medinah” in 2012, is now struggling
to qualify for this year’s clash with US at Gleneagles, following a slow start
to the season. 45-year old Lawrie is at present languishing at 68th
in the European qualifying standings, but he had previously stated that he
faced dilemma after Dons had beaten St Johnstone in the semi-finals.
However,
during a Q&A session on Twitter, Lawrie confirmed that he would put his Ryder
Cup hopes on hold for a week and observe Aberdeen play their first major final
for 14 years. Stephen Gallacher, who currently lies in the 14th
place, is Scotland’s finest hope of having a home player qualify for Paul
McGinlay’s team.
